It’s Your Move! is our latest intergenerational project, working with communities across the UK.
No experience necessary and we do all the dancing! It’s Your Move invites 10 people from each community, at 10 different stages of life, to each create a short dance on 2 professional performers about absolutely anything.
Previous participants have gone nutty for Nando’s, talked about Tinder, got caught in a Time Warp, dissected the lifecycle of a dragonfly, uncovered the wonder of unicorns and reflected on a whole host of personal life experiences. As you can see, literally anything can be the starting point for creating a dance!
Once created, all 10 dances are woven together to create one performance celebrating the rich tapestry of each community. They are then performed locally, in a celebration of ‘now’ and ‘us’.
Longer term, our dream is to work with 100 people, one of each age from 1 – 100. We’ll then weave all of their dances together to create a touring show that truly celebrates and showcases the creativity of people living in the UK, today.
In 2019, we successfully delivered this unique project in partnership with York Theatre Royal and Birmingham Dance Hub / Nechells POD. During the summer of 2020, we worked with artsdepot to deliver the project digitally through lockdown with local Barnet residents!
Right now we’re working with some Banbury folk too, with support from our friends at The Mill Arts Centre.
